1Let the iPad be your guide
Typically, meetings are meant to spark new thinking and fresh ideas. Which means the typical way of delivering meeting experiences just won’t do anymore. Exceptional meetings need innovative ideas to elevate them to the next level. Destination Hotels & Resorts prides itself on being a leader in innovation, and the team at Vail Cascade recently came up with a rather unique event for some of the top representatives from incentive companies across the nation.
The resort wanted to engage the group in a new and captivating way. So, the sales team enlisted the help of Wildly Different – a company with more than 20 years experience in one-of-a-kind team-building programs – and MobileXpeditions, a designer of mobile applications. Together they created the first-ever “unVAILed” iPad hunt application for Vail, Colorado
Taking teams through 10 fun-filled locations in Vail Village and Lionshead, this exciting, interactive hunt gave teams a unique view of Vail Valley. Using iPads pre-loaded with information, animations and an interactive map, teams traveled from location to location, solving clues along the way.
The clues were written to make the most of what the iPad has to offer, including music files, video, photos, and more. At one stop, teams were required to get on stage and sing with a local entertainer. Not until he was satisfied with their performance did teams get their secret word for that location so that they could move on. At another stop – a trendy bowling alley and restaurant – teams had to use an animated gif on the iPad to match up the bowling balls displayed at the location to get the correct answer.
After two hours on the town hunting down the clues, competing for the winning prize, exploring Vail – and having a blast along the way – teams convened at a dinner location to get their final clue.
“We wanted something that our clients had never seen or experienced before so we immediately called Wildly Different,” said Scott Bernard, National Sales Manager of Vail Cascade. “Their creativity and the effectiveness of their hunts are just what we needed. I know that the iPad hunt was definitely the highlight of the meeting.”
Those in attendance agreed, and it made quite an impression.
“It just goes to show that Destination Hotels is a very ‘human’ company, with friendly, flexible, fun people working behind the hotel name,” said attendee Matt Kisser of JNR Incorporated. “It is a breath of fresh air in this day and age and makes business much more pleasurable.
Our growth continues with the recent addition of both Boston and Chicago area properties.
