Giving “Thanks” Shouldn’t just be for Thanksgiving

At the InterContinental Tampa we make it personal.  A hand written note may seem passé but I believe it goes a long way – sure a typed note looks clean and professional. But to our clients and guests – that hand written thank you note represents time taken out of the day to really express the gratitude for their business, a referral, or even just the opportunity to build that relationship.

With the hustle and bustle of the business setting, it is really easy to forget to take time out and express our appreciation and yet this very simple act is such an important aspect of ensuring success with our clients and guests. It is no secret that people find it important to feel validated and respected. Remembering to thank the people who have helped your business in one way or another is key to solidifying a healthy business relationship and let’s not forget - it’s just good manners!

How to thank thee? Let us count the ways – Let’s be honest, there are so many ways that we can thank our clients and guests - the most important thing is to make it personal! While conversing with your client – ask simple questions or simply listen for like and dislike attributes– favorite foods, destinations, activities etc. in addition try and pick up on any life events – a birthday, anniversary, new born baby, wedding etc. then when they receive your note or gift of appreciation it will be relevant to the conversation that was had and the thoughtfulness of the gift will go a long way.

As Thanksgiving rolls around the corner, we take time to reflect on what we have and, this practice should not be limited to one day of the year. We can and we should practice the skill of appreciation as much as we want and as often as we want.

Appreciation for everything we have, and much more, is not limited to the one day of Thanksgiving. We can practice the “skill” of appreciation as much as we want to, every single day. Try it for just 21 days straight – it will change your life!

So, this Thanksgiving, enjoy the food, enjoy the company, and even the day off from work. But, more than anything appreciate the fact that you have so much to appreciate…and appreciate that.

How do you give thanks?
